A Dedicated Service

After nearly three decades of service, our esteemed Estimator, Ian Heron, is retiring. It is with a great mix of gratitude and nostalgia that we celebrate his incredible career and lasting impact on us all at Compco Fire Systems.

Ian joined our Small Works department in 1996 as Sales & Business Development and after retiring from full-time employment in 2017, continued working for our Small Works team part-time as an Estimator.

“I didn’t pick Sprinklers as a profession; I wanted to be Vicar or a Vet, when the Careers Advisor asked what subjects I liked, I said Art and Technical Drawing, he said that’s it then, Design Engineer and told me to turn up for an interview with a Sprinkler Company based in Worcester. I attended and got the job, 20 years later I asked the guy who interviewed me why he took me on, the reason was that I was the only one who turned up for the interview!" Reflects, Ian Heron.

"But, I have never ever regretted working in the Sprinkler Industry, I have had a fantastic career and the things I have been involved in from Nuclear Submarine Bases to most of the Car Plants in the UK, Gold Mines in Uzbekistan, Spheres in the Middle East and my favorite, Shopping Centres all over the UK have provided me with enough variety to keep my interest piqued. I hope all at Compco Fire Systems find they too can thrive and have an enjoyable work life as I have.” Continues, Ian.

Over the years, Ian has not only contributed to the company's growth but has also been a mentor and role model to many colleagues. Beyond the numbers and project bids, Ian has brought warmth, camaraderie, and a wealth of industry knowledge to the team. Whether it was guiding our junior teams, fostering client relationships, or solving complex challenges with precision, Ian has left an indelible mark on our organisation.

When asked about Ian’s retirement, our Sales Director, James Greenwood said: "Ian has worn many hats during his career at Compco Fire Systems and has been a cornerstone of our company for our 25 years. Bringing dedication, expertise, and a wry sense of humour to every project, his contributions have been invaluable, and his presence will be greatly missed. While we will miss Ian’s daily interactions, we are excited for him as he embarks on this new chapter of his life.”

Happy Retirement, Ian!

As Ian embarks on this well-deserved retirement, we extend our deepest appreciation for his years of hard work and dedication. Everyone at Compco Fire Systems wishes him all the best in this new chapter of life.
